General/FAQ

How should I write the description?

Be specific and detailed. If you know the name of the record, please list or describe it. Include details to narrow the scope of your request as much as possible, such as dates or specific time periods, addresses, types of records you want (or don’t want included). Descriptions that are vague or general may result in delays or fees.

Good example: Please provide copies of any building permits issued by the City between August 2021 and December 2021 related to 100 Main Street.

Poor example: Any and all records related to 100 Main Street.

What information may I request?

You may request a copy of existing public records housed by the City of Pocatello. (The City does not have vital records, such as birth, marriage/divorce or death records.) The City does not create new documents in response to a records request.

How do I request vital records, such as birth, marriage/divorce and death records?

To request vital records, contact the Idaho Department of Health & Welfare. (https://healthandwelfare.idaho.gov/services-programs/birth-marriage-death-records)

Is there a fee for records requests?

A fee may be charged for requested documents. If a fee is to be charged, you will be contacted prior to fulfillment of the request. All fees must be paid in full prior to completion. A complete listing of current fees can be found here: (Exhibit R-Public Record Fees, Page 56)
